Social media is increasingly being looked at as an effective source of recruitment and talent management.  A recent article in TechCrunch outlined how one firm is using Facebook to promote open positions.  While the strategy detailed is interesting, there are many more effective ways to use social media to attract top talent than simply running Facebook ads.

Online thought leadership can attract potential employees who find a firm’s strategy to be particularly compelling, and blogs are one of the most useful and efficient ways for companies to distribute and promote thought leadership content.  Interesting blog articles are a great way to connect with potential hires that have the skills you need for your open position.  Blog posts let you describe the unique aspects of your company that make it a great place to work.

Developing social media profiles gives passive candidates a way to stay in contact when job opportunities arise.  Often, a talented person may not be actively looking to leave a current position, but enticing them to like your Facebook page or follow your Twitter account could be the hook you need to make him or her consider making a switch to your operation.

Staffing companies increasingly are seeing benefits from using social media, as well.  These firms use social media and blogs to keep their talent pool active while also connecting with companies who have hiring needs.  LinkedIn has proven especially useful in contacting potential candidates and publicizing open job opportunities.  Are you and your company exploring social media as a recruitment tool?  If so, let us know what channels you are having the most success with.
