On August 24, 2009, I was wrapping up a rather formal email and attempted to sign with my full name” Patrick James Morrell.”  Alas, I failed.

In bringing the thunder of brute force down on my weathered keyboard, the “R” suffered all if could take.  Gracefully bowing out with a barely audible snapping of the plastic bracing below, the key lay  inert and exhausted in between my “E” and “T.”

Practicality gave way to frugality and I carried on with an “R”-less keyboard.  That is until last week when a similar fate befell my “U.”  At that point, I conceded that a new keyboard was in order.  However, while shopping for a new Lenovo R61i key board, I came across a far more practical option at www.MachinaElectronics.com.

In two steps, Machina allowed me to pick my computer model and indicate just the letters I wanted to order by scrolling my cursor over an online creation of my own keyboard.  Very Easy.

Long story short: if you snap off a key, don’t blow your $$$ on an entirely new keyboard.  Just spend $5-$6 on a new key, and be on your way.

RIP “R” and “U.”  Gone but not forgotten.  And now, replaced.
