Doug Bailey
Doug Bailey leads the Emerging Media Research Council at Three Ships Media, a Member-based think tank. The Members--a group composed of Fortune 500 companies, national trade associations, and leading advisory firms--direct the work of the Research Council staff at Three Ships Media. The staff compiles interviews of industry leaders, undertakes substantive proprietary research projects, and regularly publishes white papers on the emerging media industry to keep Members of the Emerging Media Research Council at the leading edge of practice.
Background
Doug Bailey was founder and subsequently Senior Advisor to The Hotline, a bipartisan, online briefing on American politics that “covers the coverage” of campaigns, candidates and issues from TV, radio and 2500 daily papers across the country. Dr. Bailey founded The Hotline in 1987, which quickly became required reading for Washington decision-makers. He sold the company in 1996, continued to serve as CEO and Executive Publisher until 1999, then left to pursue philanthropic ventures. Prior to his media career, Dr. Bailey founded one of the first national political consulting firms with John Deardourff, Bailey Deardourff & Associates, which conducted over 60 statewide November victories. By the 1970s, the firm counted over half of the nation’s Republican governors as clients. Dr. Bailey began his career on Capitol Hill where he advised a consortium of Congressmen on policy issues. He also served as principal deputy to Henry Kissinger on Governor Nelson Rockefeller’s foreign and defense policy staff. He has authored two books on foreign and military policy.

During the last decade, Dr. Bailey has been an active leader of several innovative political and philanthropic causes, serving as an officer or on the board of Unity08, Freedom’s Answer, Freedom Channel, and The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Education
He holds a Ph.D., M.A., and M.A.L.D. from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He holds a B.A. from Colgate University.
