Three Ships Media Values Wall
Discussion about the values of Three Ships Media began as soon as the company was founded. Three Ships Chairman Jeff Giesea pushed the company to articulate a set of principles that would define the team.
We knew we wanted Three Ships Media to be a magnet for talent and opportunity. We also knew that we’d be “explorers” in the early days, trying different ideas and different strategies in the rapidly changing world of digital marketing. So, during our first year, we began capturing the way we lived out our values via sticky notes posted on a living “Values Wall.” When any individual observed a shipmate doing something exceptional that seemed to embody our culture, it was recognized on the Values Wall.
Over time, we held several company-wide conversations about what qualities made our shipmates successful. Many of us read management guru Jim Collins’ work on vision and values. Values, he says, are things you’d still believe in — even if they cost you money. The five values we’ve selected, captured in the moniker “SAILS,” are timeless. Yes, we love our customers. Yes, we believe in hard work. Yes, we are team players. But we believe these values make us unique at Three Ships Media.
