We are developing a new web application, which offers benchmarking data to our client base. The system we are currently developing involves the efficient storage, retrieval, and display transformation of large collections of semi-structured data.
The ideal candidate is looking for an experience where they can chart their own course and will have the following characteristics:
- Experience developing production apps in Ruby with a passion for clean code, great products, and an agile development process.
- Knows HTML5, CSS and JavaScript so well that you think it’s a dumb requirement on a job description.
- Familiarity with the Twitter and Facebook APIs, interest in services like Gnip, familiarity with data visualization tools like GoodData or Tableau, and experience with OAuth or external APIs of any kind is a major plus.
- Understanding of databases and different choices in designing or picking one. You’ve worked wtih MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, and possibly Firebird or Berkeley DB. You appreciate scaling up to terabytes of data and billions of records. You’ve used transactions and can think of situations where you wouldn’t.
Additionally, the right individual will:
- Have opinions about web application usability and experienced at implementing their vision
- Thrive in a small team, where everyone’s work matters; likely you’re a perfectionist that works tirelessly to balance deadlines with perfection
- Have experience building web applications from the ground up, preferably in a startup
